Faith, philosophy, religion and truth - Road Reverence

A while back, Premier Christian Radio in London (my former employers as a full time website editor and freelance contracting web editor) did an article in their Lifestyle section of their website, titled Road Reverence. Obviously a play on Road Rage.

This is what I sent in to them. I don't think they've used it but ... here it is anyway:

"I always find that remembering Jesus is IN THE CAR with me helps no end.  I personally get tempted (like the Mercades owner who wrote in) to show off my car's litre-age.  But we shouldn't.  If there is a boy racer - LET HIM go ahead. That's right, put your ego to death.

It is the best thing you can ever do and God will bless you so much for doing it, because if you get on the throne of your life, you are in control, not Jesus.  If He is in control and you kill your ego, even if you are driving the fastest car on the road and he is driving like a fool in a Golf Polo, you should let him go ahead. Especially at traffic lights.

I had a mate once who pulled away first and the guy got so angry he chased him, bumped him and nearly seriously hurt him, kicking his door.  You don't know how far your car's engine connected to your ego will drive THEM up their wall, so let them get away with their green light race - God is watching and He'll bless your socks off for caring more about what He feels about sin in your life, than you being first away from those lights.

Yes - EVEN IF and especially if you could very well give that other car a run for it's money. Because that's when it's hard to resist doing so - if you have no chance at all, it's easy to let them go. When they are well up your nose and honking you and stuff - that is the testing grounds. A man's true metal will come out then.

If you don't have the strength to kill your ego, pray and ask God to help you do it.  If you doubt you will allow God to help you...get a pants car! :)  Nothing is worth you taking the throne of your life back over! :) Because once you do it in the car, you'll find surprise surprise...it's happening everywhere else, too.  A doorway is a doorway. Ignore doorways at your peril."
