Rants - Charlton Cinema aka Keynsham Bingo Hall ... and it's destruction in pictures

Updated 25/4/05 - For now, I'll keep this short & sweet. I am holding a lot of video footage (both at night with night vision and during the clear daylight) as well as still pictures; some taken using a digital video & stills camera, others with a humble cell phone which also does video & images.

I am recording the demolition of the Bingo Hall by accepting still and moving images as well as presenting a rare, one off 'Blair Witch' style video taken from INSIDE the derelict structure during the late night; using street lighting & powerful torches, night vision and in some places, pretty much no lighting at all. This will probably go up in a while as it will take time to capture it all. I will probably leave out the audio as it is in some places, rather silly and ruins the mood of the piece. The identities of those participating will be left unclear & un-stated, so that even if 'everybody knows' who it probably is, there is no proof. Discovering urban exploration sites is a hobby not all share.

Finally, and very seriously. Personal and corporate risk assessment was undertaken in daylight before any of these pictures or videos were taken. As simple as they look and seem, no one responsible for these images nor the owners of this website or it's Editor (me), take any responsibility for anyone taking pictures, video or audio recordings in conditions which later become dangerous or hazardous in any way, and certainly involving entering structures. Don't be stupid - asbestos is a killer if you breath it in. Don't go in old buildings or climb on scaffolding without supervision of urban exploration experts and with permission. You may be arrested or seriously injured.

Remember that old mantra - do as we SAY, don't do as we DO. It applies now. Please, explore and play safe. Buildings are HEAVY, and they may give way without warning. If a brick falls on you, you'll be very, very mushy - in a 'hospital bed, feeding through a drip' sort of way.

You have been warned. Thanks for reading! I will add the better stuff as I capture it but for now, the cell phone shots will have to whet your appetite.  If you have any Bingo Hall images or video footage that may be of interest, please get in touch with me at 'Kim at Melted Dot Com'.

<<< left, night vision from the top of the structure, scaffolding visible. West View and Charlton Road as well as St Ladoc are all clearly present

<<< left, on 25/4/05, the purple headed digger cuts down the remains of the main roof, and sorts the metal into piles

more twisted metal roofing being cut up, right >>>

<<< left, some of the waste metal next to the men's hut, the hall in the backdrop, or what's left of it, just the stage by this point.

more sorting of the metal roofing, right >>>

<<< left, at one point the digger threw a piece too far and it almost passed above the fence! I narrowly escaped death by flying bingo hall girder impalement.  Weird way to go? See how tightly the thing end is crushed by the cutting force of those purple jaws ...

coming soon, right >>>
